This road, following
ancient Salado foot paths, was carved through awe inspiring canyons and rock to
provide access for the construction of Roosevelt Dam at the turn of the century.
Teddy Roosevelt called this canyon "one of the most spectacular and
best-worth-seeing sights of the world".

Bring your shovel,
pick, and sense of adventure. On Tuesdays and Fridays of any week Southwest Custom Tours picks up passengers at most hotels in Phoenix and Scottsdale at approximately 8:30- 9:30am. This tour takes you to the mystery and wonder of
the Superstition Mountains, location of the world famous "Lost Dutchman's Gold
Mine." (He was not really Dutch, you know!) Misplaced for over 100 years,
somebody is bound to find the gold mine sooner or later and it might as well be
you. Even if you don't find it, you'll have a great time looking. The short
desert walk on this trip will give you an idea of what to expect in your
search.
On this tour you
will find Tortilla Flat-- population 6… or 4… or 3. It is hard to keep up with
the ever-changing population of the old stage stop. While there, notice the
unique wallpaper in every building…both of them.
The highlight of
the trip (if you don't strike it rich) is a one-and one-half hour narrated boat
ride on The Dolly's Steamboat on Canyon Lake. One of the four man made lakes on
the Salt River…no, it is not salty. Most people don't think of lakes when they
think of Arizona, but we have over 260 bodies of water in the state--it's just
that the water is very dry.
Cruising under the
80-90 ft. cliffs of Canyon Lake, you're apt to see a verity of wildlife,
including Bighorn sheep, deer, nesting eagles and a variety of aquatic foul.
Once in a while, you may even see a black bear or mountain lion. Don't worry…
they can't swim very fast and rarely catch the boat.
Returning to the
marina for lunch at the Lakeside Cantina, you'll enjoy a view of the lake and
the company of your guide and fellow travelers.
The entire trip
takes about seven hours, but we are sure you will remember your adventure for
years to come.
$99 per person.
Children 12 and under 1/2 price. The Apache Trail tour returns to your hotel between 4:30 - 5:30pm.
